Women in Neuroendocrine Tumour Science: Breaking Barriers and Building Legacies

 

 

This special collection is dedicated to showcasing the broad spectrum of research, advancements and clinical practices in Neuroendocrine Tumour (NET) science, with a specific emphasis on the contributions and leadership of women in the field. The articles will encompass a wide range of topics, including basic and clinical research on NETs, advancements in diagnostic techniques, treatment strategies and clinical trials, patient care and quality of life issues and leadership and advocacy. 

It will serve as a cornerstone for ongoing discussion, research and clinical advancements in the treatment of NETs, celebrating the dedicated efforts of women who have been instrumental in pushing the boundaries of what is possible in this challenging and complex field.

This collection is inspired by the work being done by the Women in NET (WiN) initiative from the European Neuroendocrine Tumor Society (ENETS), which offers support and mentorship to female specialists, trainees and researchers.

Dr del Olmo-García works in the Endocrinology and Nutrition Department at University Hospital La Fe, and is Associate Professor at the Department of Medicine, University of Valencia. She is coordinator of the Reference Unit of Neuroendocrine tumors CV, coordinator of the Pheo-Para Alliance Clinical Center of Excellence, member of the scientific committee of GETNE,secretary of the ENETS WiN group and a member of SEEN.  
 

Dr Krystallenia Alexandraki

Dr Krystallenia Alexandraki, MD, PhD, MSc, MSc
Dr Alexandraki is a specialist in endocrinology. She is coordinator of the Unit of Gastrointestinal Neuroendocrine Neoplasms (NETS), Adrenal Neoplasms and Endocrine Neoplasms at the 2nd Department of Surgery, Aretaieion University Hospital and directs the Master of Science “Endocrine Neoplasms' at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
Dr Alexandraki is Secretary of the European NeuroEndocrine Association (ΕΝΕΑ) and inspirator of ENEA Center of Excellence (CoE) establishment, member of Workshop and Study Committee of ENEA, secretary of WiN of European Neuroendocrine Tumour Society (ENETS), ESE Representative of Rare Disease Committee of European Society for Endocrinology (ESE), ESE representative of Joint EuRRECa & EuRR-Bone Data Access Committe and member of the Experts Panel for the Endocrine-related cancer Focus Area of ESE. She is the author of 165 scientific papers, chapters in textbooks, electronic journals and 231 abstracts in conference proceedings. Her publications having an impact factor of 609,70 and h-index 42, and received 6410 citations.
